In 1967, de Andrade was invited by the Italian firm Olivetti to create a documentary on the new Brazilian capital city of Brasília. Created throughout the latter half of the 1950s and established in 1960, the city was part of an effort to inhabit Brazil's substantial interior region and was to be the personification of autonomous urban planning, without the course departments and also inequalities that define a lot of metropolitan areas. Unsurprisingly, Brasília, Contradições de uma Cidade Nova (Brasília, Contradictions of a New City, 1968) revealed Brasília to be utopic only for the affluent, duplicating the same social issues existing in every Brazilian city.
