In 1909, Denmark's Alabama Expedition led by Captain Ejnar Mikkelsen was trying to refute the USA' claim to North-Eastern Greenland, a claim that was rooted in the suggestion that Greenland was separated into two various pieces of land. Leaving their staff behind with the ship, Mikkelsen sleds throughout the ice with his inexperienced team member, Iver Iversen.
