December of 1941, Northwestern Front. A German tank column is relocating towards Moscow. During a goal to quit the opponent advance, Nikolai Komlev's IL-2 is obliterated. Komlev handles to crash-land his plane in a remote woodland clearing. He's alive, yet much from friendly territory. Ahead of him is a relentless test of severe physical and psychological endurance. After battling cravings as well as extreme cold, escaping packs of wolves and detachments of Nazi soldiers, the wounded Komlev finally makes it back to safety and security. But there he encounters one more obstacle, one of the most life-altering of them all.
