The film focuses on, Norman, a world-weary manager of a pier theatre in a seaside hotel. Norman has operated in the theatre for all of his life, yet will not accept that the local council, which have the theatre are preparing to install even more business monitoring in an effort to enhance audience numbers. As the tale unravels he knows it may be time to proceed and place behind him the ghost of 50s & 60s singer Alma Cogan, that performed at the theatre several years ago. Sandra, his devoted long-suffering assistant as well as Norman decide to leave the theatre to meet her imagine being an expert vocalist as well as unexpectedly taking pleasure in a late blossoming love.
